A downloadable Jigsaw Thrive

Description

This 30 second animation showcases a jigsaw puzzle coming together and giving life to each piece that connects. First it starts off with a few dull jigsaw pieces, coming alive when they join together, then it becomes larger and more complex, with each puzzle piece having a unique personality. The theme for this render is ‘Together we thrive’. This meaning is everywhere in my design.

Here are some of the key features that make my design unique and attributable:

  1. Connecting of jigsaw pieces represent individuals coming together. When individuals connect, just like a jigsaw puzzle, it produces a final result that is influenced by every piece.
  2. Each jigsaw piece has a unique character. This represents a diverse community in our world where they can come together and produce a result that is mesmerising.
  3. Colours have been specifically chosen and represented in a reviving manner. The dull pieces each benefit off the connection and turn into bright pastel colours, meaning everyone can thrive in this environment from each other.

There is something to take note of when observing this animation; there is one puzzle piece that simply doesn’t want to join and complete the puzzle. This leaves the rest of the community in trouble of finishing the puzzle, however, it doesn’t stop there! One of the puzzle members voluntarily splits and completes the puzzle. This sacrificial motion proves that this community benefits off each other, and that each member makes a difference, whether it can be questionable or beneficial for everyone. Together we thrive, altogether the jigsaw puzzle thrives.

Reflection

One of my favourite parts about this project was creating the unique colours and character animations for each puzzle piece. Though the start of creating it was quite smooth and fast, it did take a while brainstorming new ideas for each character. To conquer my mind blanks, I would observe everyday objects around me to include some sort of relation to our own lives. Another technique I used was just experimenting and seeing where I got. I thought originally my idea was very abstract and difficult to understand. It evolved from the idea of just a stationary puzzle animation that loops small animations, and then became an innovative and great representation of how communities can work, incorporating the theme. Each puzzle piece character designed was one step closer to finishing and one step closer to success. This has to be, by far, my most favourite animation yet.
